Cake Fails
Anyone who has known me for any length of time knows that I love to bake cakes. I enjoy experimenting with flavors and recipes and creating something delicious.
This weekend I tried something new and made a lemon velvet cake. I thought I followed the recipe pretty well, but the cake stuck to the pan. I had to piece the layers together to make it look like a cake.
One of my weaknesses in general when it comes to cake is decorating them. I can make a cake that tastes amazing, but it doesn’t always look professional.
So needless to say, the cake ain’t pretty.
But it tastes terrific. It’s not the first time I’ve had that problem; I’ve made plenty of other cakes that looked hideous but tasted amazing.
I’m no expert cake decorator. But you know what? I own it. I’d much rather have a cake that tastes good and looks bad than vice versa. (Believe me, I’ve eaten some beautiful cakes that tasted horrible…)
We see this sort of pretty-but-bad-cake phenomenon with people on social media. They may be celebrities or influencers, or they could be someone you know. We see these people whose lives look amazing on the surface, but they’re falling apart on the inside.
There’s a tragedy to the facade of a life that merely looks good. It’s one thing to look like you have everything put together if you’re fulfilled and the inside matches the outside, but it’s heartbreaking to find out that someone whose life looks great on the surface is dying inside.
Be authentic. Work on the “inside” of your life - the taste of your cake, as it were. Because wouldn’t you rather have a life that might look messy on the exterior but is full of joy and peace deep down?
