Gracious Law?
This morning as I was reading today’s verses from Psalm 119, verse 29 struck me as interesting:
“Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through your law.”
Most of us don’t think of the law as something that is gracious. We surely don’t think it’s gracious when we get a speeding ticket, or when we hear of a criminal getting out of jail on a technicality, or when lawmakers raise our taxes.
Yet God’s shows us His grace through His perfect law. He could have simply created us and left us alone to figure out how to live, but He instead chose to give us His law, and even to send His Son as a perfect example of how to live. Jesus said that He came to fulfill the law, and His death and resurrection was the ultimate act of grace. So, you see, the idea of gracious law makes complete sense in light of God’s Word.
I’ve enjoyed the nuggets of truth I’m getting from Psalm 119.
