My Favorite Female Vocalists: 10. Melanie Penn
The only artist on this list I consider a friend...
Disclaimer: this countdown isn’t meant to be an all-time definitive list. These are simply my favorites.
It’s a rare thing when you actually get to know a musical artist you admire. I first found out about Melanie Penn’s music when Christianity Today featured her first album Wake Up Love as a new release to watch. Her songs enthralled me from the start.
Her music, rooted in her Christian faith and informed by her background in musical theater, is accessible and artistic all at once. That album played on my iPhone over and over.
The came her second album, Hope Tonight, and an opportunity I had to interview her for PJ Media. We became social media friends, and we’ve interacted regularly over the years.
Melanie released two Christmas albums and then began releasing singles, which she combined into the collections More Alive, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.
She ministered to me personally the day my dad passed away when she did a live Facebook concert from COVID-19 quarantine. I’ll never forget it.
Melanie continues to make incredible music that both inspires and entertains. I’m always proud to share her music with the world.
Melanie happens to have a brand new single that released today:
